Adventure Awaits!
"You must go on adventures to find out where you truly belong"
~Sue Fitzmaurice
I am blessed to be living a life that allows for many adventures and a wonderful family to share them with. I have always been one to document the memories whether it be with photos, words, or pieces of art. For this piece, I wanted to represent the eccentricity of free expedition and journey.
My work consists of recycled, repurposed materials and this piece isn't an exception. I hijacked some corrugated cardboard from my office and was extremely excited to discover the honeycomb within:
I dampened the surface and peeled back a layer and Voila! Pretty cool texture eh?
I slapped on some gel medium and gesso and allowed to dry. I randomly stenciled the surface with Tim Holtz 'Measured' stencil.
I used Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists to color this piece (as I do most of my work). I spritzed here and there with the wonderful hues of Crushed Shells, Nougat, Bronze, and not pictured, Rusty Red.
Most of the embellishments that I use are from some sort of Tim Holtz Ideaology collection or something that I pick up on one of my many daily walks throughout town. I have collected a number of rusted, worn hardware and old materials found along the road. I don't know why I am drawn to the old and rusted but they catch my eye every time.
You can see parts of the parchment rub-ons that I absolutely ADORE from Architextures. You can use these on any kind of surface; fabric, porous, non-porous...I haven't tried it on every surface but they are amazing!
Once I placed everything in an acceptable layout, I added some texture with Art Stones and Pebbles secured with Medium Gel.
Once the pebbles and stones were dry, I added some more Glimmer mists to spruce up the texture.
It took me some time to complete this piece but once I found myself content with it...I decided to make it a collection piece. I hope to have two additional pieces completed to go along with it. What it boils down to is... I have so much honeycombed corrugated cardboard that I can't just throw away lol.
This is a fantastic mixed media piece of art! I love that honeycomb texture you chose to embellish and those fabulous parchment rub ons. Beautiful texture on this!
ReplyDeleteAgain, great texture and a golden glow of vintage nostalgia. I hopped over from Bleeding Art hoping to find your latest... will be back to check again soon.
